Hey everyone, how are you today?  Wednesday and Friday’s Winter Shape Up workout were both really good, I am excited for the new one to come out on Monday. But right now I am glad to just have two days off to rest.

It’s starting to snow here we’re supposed to be getting a storm, so I don’t see much exciting stuff happening around here in the next couple days. However last night I made some tasty Banana Muffins, just using the same recipe as my banana bread.

Quick Update:

So today I headed to the gym in the morning. I did a warm up on the treadmill for 1 mile and then I did the same WSU as Monday. The workout went really well, my hamstrings were still a little sore but I was able to do the workout without any discomfort. After I finished that workout, I did some stretching and then a cool down on the treadmill for 10 minutes.

I can’t wait until next week to learn what Week 2 will hold for a workout. The best thing about this workout is that it adds variety, I do not feel bored with this workout and it works all the muscles that I want it to be working.

So today Gina posted her Winter Shape Up 2010 on her bloggy. Today will be the first day of it and I am rather excited to participate in it. Today I will be doing the Beginner workout to see how it feels and possibly bump up to the intermediate/advanced one depending if the beginner one worked me enough or not.  Thanks Gina for taking your time and designing this! It will definitely be a great workout and will help me get my butt back into serious gear. It will also help make my workouts more exciting, because I feel that they have been somewhat lacking lately.

So this is what she has posted for this week’s beginner workout that I will be doing.


Warm up with 5 minutes of walking or light jogging


Dumbbell frontal raise (12)

Plie squatwith bicep curl (12)

Medicine ball twist (10 on each side)

Jumping jacks (45 seconds)

Chair squats (12)

hammer curl (10 on each side)

Chair dips (10)

Good mornings (15- instead of holding a barbell, hold a medicine ball at your stomach)

Bent knee leg raises (12)

High knees (1 minutes)

Repeat circuit 2 more times for a total of 3 times. Stretch.



As you can see I combined the Plie Squat and the Curl together, just as in the intermediate/advanced workout because I wanted it to be a little more challenging for myself.

The whole workout, with quick water breaks and collecting the weights, medicine ball and stretching it took me a total time of 54 minutes and I burnt 372 calories!

Last night was just a chill night, we rented the movie Up, such a good movie and a great story in it too. Don’t you just love having those nights where you can just relax and watch a great kids cartoon movie (without kids!) As for today, nothing much got done. We went out a little in the afternoon and that was about the extent of it all. Tomorrow is a different story, I will get in a good work out again and some weights, I am excited for that.

Weather this week is supposed to still be decent. But "they" are saying we should be getting snow by the weekend. It’s been so Spring like here in Sask lately its kind of odd.  I’m absolutely loving this warmer weather but it still just doesn’t feel right for January.

I just wanted to drop by and catch you up on my weekend, even though it hasn’t been anything excited. Maybe this week will be.




So as you all know I got some new kicks! And I also splurged and got me a sport armband for my iPod touch. Now I won’t have to worry about holding it while I run, Yay!

I have a couple things on my Wish List from Lululemon whenever I get some spare cash or if anyone wants to buy me a special present (hint hint V-day is coming sweetheart LOL)

I never thought I would be so much into a Brand name, but this is quality stuff! I wouldn’t buy my regular everyday wear there but when it comes down to my workout clothes, I don’t really want to cheap out anymore. Since getting more serious into running, you realize that you need good quality clothes and definitely good quality shoes to get the job done.

I don’t usually go to the gym on Saturday’s, but since I’ve been slacking this week and my pink eye has pretty much recovered, I can put my contacts in and get in a good run and try out my new shoes! There will definitely be an update on how they feel during a run.

I didn’t really want to have to do this. But since I have gained weight, (like 5lbs! eek) over the Christmas holidays, I need to be serious now. I am starting to count my calories again, which just makes me realize again how much I was over eating. Fresh start with calorie counting and back to exercising my butt off. I made up a little spreadsheet to track calories in and calories out during exercise. This way I have a visual, something to stick to. Hopefully in a short while I was start to see those added pounds come off again and get back to where I was and keep losing and gaining strength with my exercises.

Today I went out and bought me some sweet hockey skates, since my feet are too wide for figure skates. It didn’t take too long to find something, and so far so good, the real test will be when I actually get one some ice to see how my feet feel then *fingers crossed* . The plan is to maybe do some skating this weekend that’s why I went out and got some, I was planning to do it anyways at some point.

Also, today I have been a cleaning machine, just basic tidying and vacuuming. I did a bit of laundry and general cleaning of all surfaces.

I am excited about making Raw Juices with my juicer and using my new book the big book of juices. There are some good detox juices and smoothies in there that I will be trying. I want to start to practice yoga with my beginners yoga DVD.

What I want to do to get Healthy:

Do my best to eat High Raw and Vegan, and if I don’t I will not beat myself up over it.

One juice a day.

One smoothie a day.



Here is one day of me focusing on eating right, this is what I want to obtain in the long run and do on a regular basis. But remember it takes time, and it definitely helps if you get as much support as possible. If everyone around you in not eating healthy and not supporting you of your choices, things will be much more difficult. So it’s best to let people know what your plan is, and hopefully they will join in or at least make an effort to help you out in your journey.

Breakfast: Capple Kiwi juice made in the juicer (from the big book of juices), which consisted of 3 carrots, 1 apple and 2 kiwis.

Cardio workout: 4.29 miles

Lunch:  2 Kiwi and Giant green smoothie – 2 bananas, 1/2 cup frozen fruit, 1/3 cup frozen cranberries, 1/2 cup water, 3 handfuls spinach (cooked) and 3 ice cubes.

Early afternoon snack: 20 almonds


Late afternoon snack: 2 kiwi and 1 macintosh apple

Supper: homemade bean chili

Snack:  Banana soft serve with chocolate syrup – 2 frozen bananas mixed until smooth in food processor.  syrup was made up of agave and organic cocoa powder.

Eating raw until supper was easy and I didn’t feel the need to snack a lot today, my stomach seemed satisfied with what I ate. I have had a migraine most of the evening. My body is getting used to eating right and it is just having a little bit of withdrawal I think. Christmas sabotaged my eating habits and my body needs a little time to adjust.

Taking a quick look back at my RUN page for December, my total mileage was 56.22 miles compared to my 32.99 miles in November. So again January I need to bump it up. My RUN page is always being updated so keep an eye on it.

Our New Year’s Eve consisted of a lot of food. I am still eating quite lousy and I have been getting constant migraines. I can’t believe how people can eat like that day in and day out. Starting Monday we are going back to our normal ways, the food is almost gone! Its going to feel so nice to not have these constant migraines and just plain yucky feelings of lack of energy and exhaustion. Starting Monday, will be the start of high raw and mostly vegan. I need to start transitioning slowly, otherwise I will never manage to keep it up. Also again starting Monday I will resume my running and start my yoga.

This year is the year to change things in my life, getting fit and healthy are on the top of my list. I want to be more adventurous in my cooking and un-cooking. I do not intend to become 100% Raw, but I do intend to become Vegan and have a lot of Raw food intake. My main reason for wanting to go Raw and Vegan is the fact that the food is so much cleaner, I don’t want to ingest any more additives or junk into my body. I want to flush those impurities away and treat my body with respect and help it perform at its best. That’s what this year is all about.  By doing all of this I am also hoping that my IBS will be under control and I will hopefully have no more flare ups and I will essentially be "cured" that would be a dream come true to feel normal, for once in my life. I have already felt the benefits of a clean lifestyle, and just from these pasts couple weeks of not eating clean, I have definitely discovered that my body does not want to eat like that anymore and it is time for a huge change.

Tonight we did some New Year’s cleaning. We switched the bedroom and the office rooms around. So now the bedroom is smaller and the office is much bigger! Only took about 2 hours to do all the moving and setting everything back up. The Christmas tree and decorations also came down tonight. Everything is all tidy again and feeling a lot more organized this year. I am off to relax for a bit before bed! New week starting, changes to be made. Stay Tuned.



So I just want to start with the first part of the title of my post, IBS and Holidays. It always seems that when you have IBS and think things are under control, a holiday comes along and you have a major attack that puts you out of commission and it doesn’t allow you to spend time with the people you love. It really gets in the way. It has always been that way for me. But this past year, I actually got passed it. I’m not exactly sure if I figured out how, but I think I know what did help. I started eating more Raw foods a couple weeks before the actual holidays came around. The week of Christmas I was still eating Raw and drinking green smoothies with lots of spinach. I also tried some Aloe Vera juice. I think that stuff is fantastic. It definitely calms my insides and makes me feel better in a matter of 10 minutes. I have had good success with it so far, and I will still be experimenting with it on worse days to see if it REALLY works. Over this Christmas season, I ate everybody else’s cooking, treats, snacks and of course cookies. Eating that way would normally reek havoc on my insides, and for some reason it didn’t this year, and I was ecstatic! But then after 5 days of eating like that way I just started feeling like crap from the unhealthy, cooked, processed, full of sugar foods. Every night before bed during Christmas I took fibre pills to keep me some what regular, because I knew my body wasn’t used to this way of eating and I didn’t want to get plugged up! (It’s true) The day after coming home, my stomach wasn’t doing so well, it finally caught up to me, I was feeling extremely sluggish and was getting constant migraines. I thought to myself, how in the heck did I used to eat like that on a normal basis? Since becoming mainly vegetarian and part Raw, I have definitely noticed the benefits of eating healthy and eating fresh foods. Today for supper I cleansed my soul with a giant Green smoothie. I almost instantly started feeling better with that boost of vitamins and good wholesome greenness.

So I am getting back on track, I bought a load of bananas and a huge bag of spinach, so I have no excuse. I need to get back to eating right so that I can feel energized again. I skipped the gym today because  I was feeling so lousy, but I will be back at it tomorrow. I went on Tuesday to the gym and used my new Polar F7, that thing is so awesome (Thanks Hunnie!) It is so easy to use, the chest strap isn’t a nuisance and it uploads easily onto the computer.

Before Christmas came I overhauled the fridge, I took out the old crispers and left that bottom space open, and I added an extra shelf for more room. I got some cheap white storage bins for all my fruits and veggies in the fridge. It brightened it up in there and made it a lot more organized and easier to be Raw!

Now for the second part of the title of my post – 10 in 2010. These are the 10 things that I would like to do in 2010.

1) Run a 10K marathon

2) Glass etchings

3) Grow some of my own veggies

4) Become High Raw/Vegan

5) Achieve goal weight

6) Assemble a cookbook

7) Practice Yoga

8 ) Donate Blood (Iron has always been too low)

9) Better my photography and food photography

10) Chocolate making

I can’t wait to do a post at the end of 2010 and look back at everything I have accomplished. Ooo its so exciting!



150 Days Left!

One week until Christmas Eve. Can you believe it?!

Last night went really well eating raw, I snacked on some Organic raspberries. I wish I could eat them more often but they are way too expensive on a regular basis.

I did really good all day eating Raw, I ate Raw until about 9:30pm and I was feeling so hungry and decided I would have a bowl of mushroom soup and a Luna Bar S’mores flavour. So all ‘n’ all I did pretty good at eating mostly raw.

Starting out this morning, I had an apple and an orange for breakfast before heading out to the gym. I did a killer workout at the gym, since I have been kind of slacking lately. 70 minutes of cardio and just over 9 miles total! Check out my RUN page for details. I am feeling so energized.

I went out to visit my mom for part of the afternoon around 3pm, I needed to drop off some presents. I brought an apple and a Raw Organic Food Bar – Chocolatey chocolate chip. I missed my brother and dad because they were heading out to the farm to bring one of the cars back for my brother to use. So soon after I arrived they left. I visited with my mom for a few hours and ate my snacks. The Food Bar was pretty good actually. My mom had a Food Dehydrator hiding in the basement and she gave it to me. Yay, I was so excited. Once my mom sat down for supper I decided I would get back home. I figured I would go home and start dehydrating something or at least figure out foods to dehydrate and get ideas flowing. I just on the road when my brother called me. THEY FORGOT THE CAR KEYS! He called and was like, "Hey we forgot the keys for the car, can you come bring them?" I just laughed, its over an hour drive to the farm and it was already 6pm. So I hightailed it back to mom’s and grabbed the keys and then I was off on my little lonesome road trip. Once I got there, I visited with my dad and brother for awhile at least! Needless to say, I was home by 10:30pm, I was pooped and starving, so we ordered a pizza and called it a night!
